The AAF is implementing the REFEDS Assurance Framework version 2.0. This framework utilises the eduPersonAssurance attribute to pass information about a users assurance levels from their IdP to a service provider. To move forward with this implementation the AAF is deprecating the old assurance framework which also used the eduPersonAssurance attribute. The implementation continues to proceed. One of the first steps in the implementation was to update the AAF federation rules, Appendix 1 Core Attributes with the new values for the eduPersonAssurance and removing the old values.
For compliance 2025, it is acceptable for an IdP to continue to provide to old values, provide no values at all or, if approved, to provide the new values associated the the REFEDS Assurance Framework version 2.0. The approval process for the new values is still under development. It will require compliance with the REDEFS Identity Federation Baseline Expectations and REFEDS Security Incident Response Trust Framework for Federated Identity (Sirtfi) Version 2.
